Coming out of the Dark Ages!

So this week, something very exciting happened in my household. I (FINALLY!!) got the internet connected. You might gasp! at the very thought of not having the net hooked up. I have been putting off for the last oh...7 years that I have lived on and off in this beautiful old house of mine. Between moving to Mungindi and back and attempting a trip around this grand country we call home, I've always avoided any sort of 'contract'. I was able to seal the deal with just a six month contract term, so if I do get cabin fever again, its not such a huge outlay. Thanks to the fantastic government subsidy, I now have super fast internet which I can't seem to tear myself away from.

So I now look forward to being able to keep up with things and perhaps dabble with a few more blog entries! :) 

So where to start?

So where to start? There’s a whole range of things that I could touch on however the thing that seems to be absorbing most of my time lately is that of job searching. And it poses the situation of being able to work from home, while still being involved in the Agricultural industry.

Sure, there are plenty of jobs out there. However there seems to still be a stigma of, if you work in the Agricultural industry it needs to be that of the physical, hands on kind. So what happens when that just isn’t an option? After talking to a wonderful group of ladies online on Facebook, in the fantastic group called Rural and Remote Australian Women, many ideas were thrown around but the underlying issue seemed to be that of viability. From mobile bookkeeping, to setting up a rural ‘Gumtree’ site, to becoming a trainer and all ideas in between, without extra training or a great deal of funding, none seemed to be a viable option straight away, although quite possible in the long term. Although there are some lucrative positions in the social media and freelancing arenas, they are far and few between it seems and finding them, even more difficult! So why is the Agricultural industry so hesitant to utilise the social media ‘up-rise’ and that of the freelance world?

Welcome to my first post! I have been meaning to start this for a long time and just haven't seemed to have done it. 

I endeavor to just cover what happens in my life living on a farm, the challenges and triumphs it brings with it and anything else I may find interesting along the way!
